The Big Talk About Fiber

By: Linda Rizek

What is Fiber? Why do we need it? How much Fiber do we need? Now, how often does that run through your mind? Not so often I concur. But, you really don’t know is how much you do need Fiber and what it can do for you.

Fiber is a carbohydrate a plant makes. It is placed in many foods such as bread. It is also in your vegetables, fruits, and beans. Its function is to help your digestive system and with that it lower your cholesterol.

There are two types of Fiber soluble and insoluble. The soluble fiber absorbs water so it can help with forms of bloating like constipation.  Insoluble fiber can not absorb water but its functions kind of like Draino its job is to scrap clean the inside of your intestines like Draino leans the inside of a sink pipe. Insoluble fiber is said to clean off carcinogens, which can be found in your food and can cause caner. So in a since it can help cure a cancer.

Fiber also can prevent cardiovascular diseases. Such as Heart attack, Diabetes, Gallstones, and kidney stones.  It also can help with balancing you weightless because fiber gives you a since of being food allowing you to eat less. This can stabilize your glucose level.

So, the question remains how much do we need? For each thousand calories we take in we should have at least 14 grams of fiber or 25 to 35 grams a day. Many Americans lack on there fiber only engorging 12 to 15 grams of fiber. Compared to many other countries such as Asia who digest 2 grams for almost every 800 calories. Study show, that Asia has less cardio diseases because there advantage of their intake of fiber.

So next time you happened to be watching the commercial with the old man talking bout fiber listen to him, he’s right.

In reference to your last paragraph, what’s a “grab”?

Thank you, for the notification. The error has been fixed. It should have been read as grams.
